Tim Storm's Bio

Tim Storm’s jiu jitsu journey started in 2006, but not the way he expected. Coming from a background in multiple sports, including taekwondo and karate, he walked into his first jiu jitsu class in great shape and immediately realized how helpless he was. Getting crushed by upper belts lit a fire. Watching their skill and control made it clear this was something worth committing to, and he’s been chasing mastery ever since.

Tim competes at Battle of the Badge to send a message to his fellow officers. It is possible to train hard, stay in shape, and compete at a high level while juggling work, family, and real responsibilities. Too many cops believe the job has to consume them. Tim believes the opposite. Taking care of yourself and chasing hard goals makes you better at the job, not worse.

Balancing law enforcement and training requires discipline. Tim sticks to a structured schedule, prioritizes sleep and nutrition, and focuses on consistency over perfection. When life interferes, he makes sure the training he does get in is intentional and high quality.

His preparation blends strength and conditioning three to four times a week with heavy mat time. Some sessions are technical and problem focused, others are hard rounds against his toughest training partners. Both matter.

Tim credits his development to a deep bench of elite coaches and teammates. His head coach Eduardo Fraga has guided his progress for over a decade, providing honest feedback and technical depth. He also trains alongside some of the most accomplished and dangerous grapplers in the Bay Area, including Ahmed White, Doug Ancey, Caleb Khan, Josh Rosenthal, “Crazy” Peter Doyle, and countless other high-level training partners. Their contribution is simple and brutal. They push him until he either adapts or breaks.

Strength, especially in the gi, has long been one of Tim’s biggest assets. He’s used it to overcome technically superior opponents, but he knows strength fades. His long-term focus is refining his technique to the point where it becomes precise and efficient, what he calls invisible jiu jitsu.

Mentally, Tim prepares with positive visualization and self-talk while staying grounded and grateful. His mindset is warm heart, cold mind.

Some of the most defining moments in his career have come from facing legends and former world champions. Competing against people who seem untouchable and realizing they get tired and make mistakes changed how he views both competition and confrontation. No one is invincible.

His advice to anyone considering competition is blunt. You only get one life. If you don’t compete, you never meet the version of yourself that only shows up under real pressure. The fear, adrenaline, and intensity unlock things you will never find in a casual class.

Tim’s goal in jiu jitsu is clear. He intends to become a world champion and is moving toward that until it’s done.

For those considering a career in law enforcement, his message is equally direct. If chasing money without purpose feels empty, policing offers responsibility, meaning, and fulfillment. You get to stand for something bigger than yourself, and yes, the pay isn’t bad either.
